MS Software Engineering Advising Schedule

MS Software Engineering advising sessions are for prospective, newly admitted, and current students. Sessions are held as walk-in, group advising sessions. You do not need an appointment to attend but please come at the beginning of the advising period. I also do not give personal appointments. Individual advising will be held after the group advising, as time permits and if you came at the beginning of the advising session.

Spring 2017 Semester Advising
I am not feeling well and the April 11, 2017 advising session is cancelled. Please forward all advising questions to me by email at or attend the next advising session.

Starting the week of January 23, 2017, advising sessions will be held every Tuesday and Thursday (note the change in days from last semester) from 4-5 pm in ENGR 292. Advising will not be held the week of March 27, 2017 due to the Spring recess.

Note: The Spring 2017 semester schedule is subject to change. Please visit this web page prior to attending an advising session.

Important Department Policies

According to departmental policy, students are not permitted to enroll in more than four courses per semester, including CMPE294, CMPE298I, and MS project or thesis courses.  The four course limit is a departmental policy that will be enforced, resulting in students being dropped from excess courses. Also note that students on an F-1 visa must take no fewer than three courses (9 units) per semester or file for a Reduced Course Load with International Scholar and Student Services (ISSS).

You may find that many of your advising questions are covered by the following web pages:

Advance Registration
Admission Prerequisite Classes
Change of Major
Curricular Practical Training (CPT)
Grades and GPA (updated 12/23/2015)

If your questions are not answered, I may be able to answer simple advising questions if you contact me by email at with the email subject MSSE Advising.
